After three years of collaboration, Project MareGraph has been successfully completed. To wrap up the project, the consortium is hosting a public webinar to present and demonstrate its key outcomes from a researcher’s perspective.

MareGraph is about connecting important marine databases (EurOBIS, WoRMS, MarineRegions) into one smart, interlinked system so computers can ‘understand’ how species, places, and observations in the ocean relate to each other. By doing this, it becomes much easier for scientists, policymakers, and even AI tools to discover, combine, and reuse marine knowledge to better understand and protect our seas.

During the webinar, we’ll run a live demo highlighting the project’s main results: new dataset formats and services, open-source tools and code libraries, reusable ontologies, and an international semantics governance workflow.

👩‍🔬👨‍💻 For who? Marine researchers, data managers, infrastructure developers, and anyone interested in linked data and knowledge graphs with EurOBIS, WoRMS, and Marine Regions.

Building on earlier work, this release introduces critical updates, a brand-new Marine Observations ontology tailored to biodiversity data, and robust SHACL shapes for validation—ensuring both flexibility and precision. Altogether, the MAREGRAPH ontology suite now includes five domain-specific modules and a top-level ontology grounded in foundational frameworks like DOLCE.

Advancing Semantic Assets for Organizational Interoperability: Insights from Deliverable D2.2Permalink
Building upon the foundation set in Deliverable D2.1, the latest Deliverable D2.2 takes the next step forward in refining the process and methodology for creating semantic assets that can be effectively utilized across different Member States. The importance of establishing a clear process and methodology for organizational interoperability cannot be overstated.

Organizational interoperability ensures seamless communication, smooth data exchange, and efficient collaboration between various departments, systems, and organizations. By implementing a standardized approach, organizations can improve their operational efficiency, reduce the likelihood of errors, and make more informed, data-driven decisions. This not only optimizes internal workflows but also enhances the ability to collaborate across borders, fostering a more integrated and effective environment for all stakeholders involved.
